  按照脱硫工艺周期可分为燃煤电厂脱硫、炉内脱硫和烟气脱硫。按照脱硫介质的温度不同，脱硫方式主要有湿式、干式和半干式三种。目前，大多数燃煤电厂脱硫以烟气脱硫为主。

  除了干法脱硫之外，现在超过80%的烟气脱硫采用湿法脱硫，这是世界上使用最广泛的方法。它通常包括石灰石-石膏脱硫、氢氧化钠脱硫、氧化镁脱硫等。由于原材料丰富且成本低，石灰石-石膏脱硫是使用最广泛的。氧化镁脱硫具有高效率和低成本，主要在矿产资源丰富的地区流行，例如山东省和辽宁省等。
